Energy Finance Analytics named as an Approved Contractor for Michigan Saves Commercial Energy Loan Program

EFA has recently been named as an approved Energy Auditor for the Michigan Saves Commercial Energy Loan Program.  The program is currently in a pilot phase and limiting projects to the City of Detroit.

Nathan M. Gillette, AIA, LEED-AP, CEM

Vice President and Director

As Vice President and Director, Nathan’s primary responsibilities include the day to day operations of the company and business development. Nathan is the senior reviewer for all energy audits, LEED submittals, property condition assessments and construction loan monitoring projects.  He is responsible for working with clients to successfully implement and manage energy efficiency, sustainability, and air infiltration testing projects.  

Prior to starting EFA, Nathan was a practicing Architect and has over twelve years of experience in the real estate development, architectural, and construction fields.  He is a licensed Architect in multiple states, a LEED Accredited professional, and a Certified Energy Manager with extensive experience in the sustainable design field.  Nathan has completed numerous LEED projects in LEED-NC, LEED-EBOM, LEED-CI, LEED-CS, and LEED for Homes.  He is a Federally Certified Historic Preservation Architect and has won numerous awards for his designs.  Adaptive reuse projects have been a specialty in Nathan’s practice and he has a particular interest in turning historic buildings into high performance energy efficient structures without compromising historic character.  

 
While a member of many different professional organizations, Nathan is a Past-President of the Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was a member of the ASTM Workgroup that developed the E2797-11 Standard for Building Energy Performance Analysis Disclosure in Real Estate Transactions.  He is an active member of the West Michigan and Illinois chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council.  He is also a member of Air Barrier Association of America’s Whole Building Air Tightness Committee.  Nathan is also a writer who has been published in many different magazines and blogs and currently serves as an editorial advisory board member and writer for Retrofit Magazine.  
 
Nathan holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Savannah College of Art & Design and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University.  Nathan has also earned AIA, LEED-AP BD+C, and Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certifications and is a certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater, and an Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) field inspector.

Victor Tvedten, Associate AIA, LEED-AP

Manager PCA/PCNA Services
Energy and Sustainable Architecture Consultant

As Manager of the PCA/PCNA Service Group, Victor’s main responsibilities include conducting building inspections of many varieties, writing and reviewing reports, and coordinating project management amongst staff. Victor’s areas of expertise include green building design and construction, energy auditing, and existing building evaluation and optimization. His job functions include: LEED building certification, CMP green building valuation, green building due diligence such as green physical needs assessments (GPNA) and green retrofit program (GRP), HUD MAP Project Capital Needs Assessments (PCNA), energy conservation measure (ECM) analysis for existing buildings, Home Energy Rater System (HERS), building envelope commissioning (shell testing), asbestos inspection, and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management.

Prior to EFA, Victor worked with several architecture firms with twelve years of experience in areas ranging from sustainable and conventional architectural design and construction, LEED building project management, rammed earth construction, and web and graphic design. 

Victor is an Associate AIA in the State of Michigan. Victor has sat on the Board of Directors for the US Green Building Council West Michigan Chapter from 2010 to present and currently holds the title of Secretary and previously Advocacy Chair. 

Victor holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan and Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree from Lawrence Technological University.  Victor has also earned LEED-AP BD+C and HERS rater certifications and is licensed asbestos containing building material (ACBM) inspector in the State of Michigan.

Eric Guikema, FMP

Energy and Sustainable Architecture Consultant

As an Energy and Sustainable Architecture Consultant, Eric’s main responsibilities include data collection, analysis, and development of EFA reports including Energy Audits, Green and standard Capital Needs Assessments (GCNA, CNA), Property Condition Assessments (PCA), and Construction Loan Monitoring reports including Architectural Cost Reviews and monthly Project Status Reports.  Eric also conducts business development, research, and administrative activities.  

Prior to EFA, Eric was a sales associate in the preventative maintenance industry and has completed internships within the Facilities Planning Department at Grand Valley State University and within the Urban Planning department at the Grand Valley Metro Council.  

Eric is a member of the United States Green Building Council’s West Michigan Chapter and the International Facility Management Association.  

Eric holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Facility Management from Ferris State University, a Bachelor of Science degree in City & Regional Planning from Grand Valley State University, and an Associates in Applied Science degree in Architecture from Grand Rapids Community College.  He has also earned the Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation from the International Facility Management Association and is pursuing LEED GA/AP Certification.

Frank Pipal

Regional Manager

As a Regional Manager of the Chicago area, Frank is responsible for site visits, analysis, and development of EFA reports including Energy Audits, Green and standard Capital Needs Assessments (GCNA, CNA), Property Condition Assessments (PCA), and Construction Loan Monitoring Project Status Reports.  Frank also conducts business development, research, and administrative activities.  Frank is responsible for overseeing the building shell and air infiltration testing program for EFA.  

Prior to EFA, Frank was a building science instructor, and was certified to HERS Rater Certification classes, BPI Certification classes, and to administer BPI field exams. Frank has also authored texts for both the HERS and BPI programs. Frank also is certified as both a HERS Rater and a holds various BPI Certifications.  Prior to his time spent in teaching, Frank was a real estate developer and builder.  He has built, rehabbed, and/or managed numerous properties, both commercial and residential.  His introduction into real estate came as a result of his earlier practice as a Certified Public Accountant, servicing clients who were mainly involved in construction and real estate management.   

Frank serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Energy Raters, is a member of the Residential Services Energy Network, and a member of the Building Performance Institute.  Frank is currently a member of the United States Green Building Council’s Illinois Chapter.  He is also a member of Air Barrier Association of America’s Whole Building Air Tightness Committee.    

Frank holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Mathematics and Psychology from Manhattanville College, and attended the University of Illinois Graduate School of Business for two years on a non-matriculation basis at the end of which he had earned his Illinois CPA designation.  Frank has also earned certifications including Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Rater and Training Provider, Energy Star trainer, Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst, Multi-Family Building Analyst and Air Sealing and Insulation certification, Level I Thermography with specialization in building Shell Analysis,

Connie Lilley, LEED GA

Client Services Coordinator

 

As a Client Services Coordinator, Connie’s main responsibilities include managing client services needs, business development, marketing, and public relations activities. Connie is also responsible for developing new relationships within the energy efficiency market and green building industries in southeast Michigan, supporting business development managers across the United States, and handling day-to-day marketing & public relations issues.   
 
Connie has over 15 years experience in marketing and public relations, seven of which have been focused on sustainability and energy efficiencies.  Prior to EFA, she was a Marketing Manager for a green manufacturer and has owned and operated Eco PR Group, Inc., a PR firm which provided public relations for clients with sustainable products or services. Connie has a long history within the commercial real estate industry and is a licensed real estate agent.
 
Connie is heavily involved with the Detroit Regional Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. She volunteers for the Green Schools Advocacy Committee in which she runs the marketing program that includes a newsletter, sponsorship program and the state-wide “My Green School Art Contest”. She also sits on the Commercial Real Estate Committee.  Connie is also active with the City of Detroit, Green Task Force Committee, Commercial Real Estate for Women, International Council of Shopping Centers, and other like-minded organizations.  She has published articles on the benefits of the Triple-Bottom-Line and Public Relations.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family, playing and watching sports.
 
Connie holds a Master’s in Business Administration degree in Strategic Management with a focus on Corporate Sustainability from Davenport University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Public Relations from Madonna University.
